How to supercharge the path to your goals, part I
Hey you,
Let’s talk about how to make those things you want to happen this year actually happen.
Last week I wrote about how it starts with clarity: as soon as you can name what it is you want, you can start to move toward it.
Once you have that clarity (which is a huge, HUGE thing to create) on what your goal is, you can approach how to accomplish that goal in so many different ways. Here’s one way to supercharge your journey toward your goal:
Connect it to your values.
When you connect your goal with your personal values you create this beautiful structure that you can trust. You create motivation when that starts to lag. You create a journey toward the goal that feels meaningful, purposeful, and juicy.
How do you connect your big, brave or tiny and mighty goals to your values?
First start by naming why your goal is valuable to you. What will pursuing this goal create for you? What will achieving this goal create for you? Why does this goal matter to you this year? What are the consequences of not pursuing or achieving this goal?
Then zoom out and remind yourself of what your core values are. Your goal does not need to have a logical connection with all your values. Just one is powerful. And let’s be honest, it’s easier to remember.
So, as you start to put strategies and plans into place for progress toward your goal, bring this value you’ve named with you into the process. As you take steps toward your goal, plug into the meaning and power of this core value of yours that you’ve named. Enjoy how this takes a simple goal and imbues it with greater meaning for you. Your journey toward your goal becomes an expression of your values.
This week I’m applying this empowering strategy by connecting my goal of finishing final revisions on the novel I plan to self-publish this spring to my value of authenticity. That simple idea helps free up something inside me as I sit down to work on it. The clarity of purpose quiets the inner critic just enough to create momentum. And all that makes me feel braver as I undertake something important to me that is entirely self-directed (and therefore full of opportunities to keep putting it off if I’m not honest about the value that it holds for me).
What goal can you connect to a value this week to empower the journey for you?
Sending you values-empowered energy,
Christin
